Unlike on the Microsoft Windows OS, USB Flash that has pluged on Ubuntu should mounted before you can use it. This article related to previous article, about how to copy files on ubuntu server 14 using USB flash to be transferred to another PC.
  1. Attach USB Flash
    Plug USB Flash to USB Port Of Ubuntu Server
  2. Identify Attached Drives
    Type on command prompt:

    # fdisk -l
    Note: USB attached as /dev/sdb1
  3. Make Folder for Mounting Drives
    Type on command prompt:

  4. # mkdir flash
  5. Mounting Drives
    Type on command prompt:
    # mount /dev/sdb1 /home/midnet/flash
  6. Check Mount Point
    Type on command prompt:
    # cd flash
    Check mounted USB flash !
    # ls
  7. Implementation
    An example for copying squid.crt at "/etc/squid/ssl_certs"
    • Check if the file exists!
      Type on command prompt:
      # ls /etc/squid/ssl_certs
    • In order to copy "squid.crt", type on command prompt:
      # cp /etc/squid/ssl_certs/squid.crt /home/midnet/flash
    • Check if the file was copied on flashdisk
      Type on command prompt:
      # ls
  8. Unmounting Drives
    Type on command prompt:
    # cd ..
    # umount /home/midnet/flash
